How to Network for Writers: Online Writing Workshops

It’s important for writers to be in community with others. However, it can be difficult to connect with other writers authentically over social media platforms, which can sometimes encourage egotistical content for writers and other creatives.

That’s why I recommend taking virtual classes. You’ll have a chance to receive some kind of guidance from a tailored, experienced writing instructor. You’ll also hopefully have an opportunity to connect with writing peers.

Over the years, I’ve met a handful of great writing friends through online writing workshops, including one who I consider a close friend. As you network more and more, you may be surprised to find familiar faces in the class with you as a peer—or even as a teacher!

The following organizations offer numerous free and paid online writing workshops. I recommend signing up for their newsletters so you don’t miss when a cool workshop is announced. I will update this list as I learn about more organizations with such offerings!

Although many of these organizations offer paid courses, many of them offer scholarship spots for those experiencing financial hardship and/or are LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC. Be sure to inquire.
